Putting People to Work
Tri-County Literacy Council has formed a community partnership with Zellers HBC to create training opportunities for persons struggling to find employment in the Retail/Customer Service sector. These persons are often without a grade 12 diploma, may lack adequate computer skills and have little or no work history.
The training is based on essential skills. These are the skills people need for work, learning and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and are the cornerstone of lifelong learning. There are nine essential skills and 5 levels of complexity. They are Reading, Document Use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral Communication, Working with Others, Thinking, Computer Use and Continuous Learning. The essential skills have been extensively researched and validated by the Governemnt of Canada and other international agencies. They are used in nearly every occupation and are itemized on the National on-line job banks.
Tri-County Literacy Council is pleased to announce that it has been successful in receiving funding for the Retail/Customer Service program through the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) that is administered through the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation. The EODP is a $10 million Government of Canada initiative which promotes socio-economic development in rural Eastern Ontario, encourages a competitive and diversified regional economy, and contributes to the successful development of business and job opportunities and sustainable, self-reliant communities.
Tri-County Literacy Council welcomes everyone to a graduation reception at Tri-County Literacy Council, 101 Second Street West, Cornwall Ontario on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 3:00p.m.
