Cornwall, ON
– The Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative (CCRI) is the proud recipient of a
$39,098 Eastern Ontario Development Program contribution through the SD&G Community
Futures Development Corporation. Guy Lauzon, MP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry,
congratulated the CCRI for its continued efforts.
"I commend Naresh and his team for their ongoing efforts to make our community a more
environmentally friendly place to live, work and play," said MP Guy Lauzon.
The Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) is a $10-million Government of Canada
initiative which promotes socio-economic development in rural Eastern Ontario, encourages a
competitive and diversified regional economy, and contributes to the successful development of
business and job opportunities and sustainable, self-reliant communities.
"With this grant, the CCRI will be able to expand programming in schools and begin
development of a program for business owners," said CCRI Chair Naresh Bhargava. "We are
thankful for this contribution and the support of Industry Canada through the Federal Economic
Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and locally through the Stormont,
Dundas and Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation."
"The CCRI has had many great projects in the past, and we're pleased to provide this funding
today," said Terry Besner, Community Economic Development Projects Manager for the SDG
CFDC. "The projects they are undertaking will support a stronger workforce and a sustainable
economy."
Founded in 2006, the Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative is a grassroots organization
dedicated to providing outreach and education activities about climate change and greenhouse
gas reduction. Through an approach tailored to our community, the CCRI promotes long-term
behavioural change and directs measurable actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in
Cornwall’s residential, commercial, and institutional sectors. For more information, visit their
