JOB POSTING Economic Development Officer
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation (SDG CFDC) is seeking a creative and highly-motivated individual to undertake the organization’s economic development outreach activities.
Background information:
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation (SDG CFDC) is a community-based non-profit economic development and investment agency governed by a volunteer board of directors, in partnership with FedDev Ontario and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry .
The Corporation fulfills the economic development role for the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry. As such, the SDG CFDC aims to develop and diversify the SD&G region through: strategic economic development and planning; business loans, business development assistance, and counselling; access to capital; promotion of the SD&G region and its businesses; and innovative programs, partnerships and strategic linkages.
The Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
Business retention and expansion activities including a comprehensive corporate call program - approximately 60-80 company visits; provision of information about available support programs and linkages (agency programs and all levels of government programs) for companies in SD&G.
Business attraction activities such as attendance at trade shows and conferences to promote the region, identify leads and support businesses which are apt to locate in the region
Special strategic projects (ex. Local Food)
Maintenance of SD&G online business directory, economic development websites, GIS (real estate)
Contribute to articles, websites, marketing material, and general inquiries about business products, programs, and activities in SD&G;
Work closely with the United Counties of SD&G as well as economic development partners at municipal and regional levels; and
Perform other related work duties as required.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and knowledge:
• Experience with corporate calling and promotion of industrial and commercial business investment;
• Knowledge of business support programs (lending, grants, etc) at different government levels
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills; fluency in both official languages considered an asset;
• Ability to work autonomously with strong attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness; excellent organizational skills.
• Demonstrated entrepreneurship, ability to work in a small team and collaborate with other partners in the community;
• Competency in the use of current software packages;
• Valid driver’s license and a car (travel expenses are covered)
• Valid Passport
Qualifications
This position is ideally suited to a graduate with a college or university diploma or degree in, but not limited to, Business Administration, Management, Economics, Marketing or Investment. Equivalent experience and training will also be considered. Knowledge of the economic development sector and/or EDAC training considered an asset.
